Family travel tips
Travelling with children becomes much easier when you plan ahead. A few simple preparations can help ensure everyone enjoys the experience from beginning to end.
Choose accommodation with family-friendly facilities
Look for accommodation that offers activities for different age groups, child-friendly dining options and safe spaces for children to play. Having entertainment available between activities helps keep younger travellers engaged throughout the holiday.
Pack for changing weather
The Karoo’s weather can change throughout the day. Dress comfortably with layers so everyone stays warm during early morning safari game drives and cool during the warmer afternoons. Comfortable shoes, hats, sunscreen and sunglasses are recommended throughout the year.
Bring binoculars and cameras
Children love spotting animals before everyone else. A small pair of binoculars or a camera to take photos encourages them to immerse themselves during game drives and create lasting memories.
Keep snacks and water on hand
Although meals are provided as part of many safari packages, having water bottles and a few favourite snacks available during travel is always helpful, particularly for younger children.
